As I mentioned in my previous post, we ended up never using Smolten as a fishing vessel. And that turned out to be a good decision, as not too long after we made it up there, it sank while at port in Havøysund. As it turned out, the previous owner had patched up a vent/hole… Continue reading The end of Smolten

Life as a fisherman
So, after finally getting the boat all the way up to Finnmark and the last stretch of the trip, we came to the conclusion that it was slightly too small and cramped to really be useful. 😂 So we scrapped the idea of using it and instead traded each other my boat for V’s slightly… Continue reading Life as a fisherman
Day 22: It’s over for now
So, it’s come to an end. The forecast is nothing but strong gale for the next two weeks in the areas we were set to cross. We’ve tried staying in Tromsø for a couple of days to see if we could leave but the weather doesn’t look to be clearing up. We’re gonna leave the… Continue reading Day 22: It’s over for now
Day 19/20: A couple of days in Finnsnes
After a couple of days ashore in Finnsnes we’re back at it. The forecast has been all over the place the last few days so we’ve laid plans to either let the boat lie in Tromsø and pick it up at a later point, or heading to Hammerfest in one monster 26-hour stretch, or aiming… Continue reading Day 19/20: A couple of days in Finnsnes
Day 17/18: It all looks the same
In yesterday and today stretch everything looked pretty much the same. 😅 Tall mountains the whole way. We’re heading to Finnsnes after a night in Tovik, so we’ve made it to Troms and we’ve not got much left now. 😍
Day 16: Back on track!
The weather turned out better than expected today, so we’re leaving Bodø and heading for Skutvik, and hoping to reach Lødingen the day after that. After that there won’t be much left til the final destination. 😍 We’ve had some varied sea today, from heavy and long swells to completely still. Some of these pictures… Continue reading Day 16: Back on track!
Day 15: Weather-bound, once again
This time we’ll be staying in Bodø until wednesday because of gale winds. The cramped and toilet/shower-less facilities on the boat have taken its toll, so we’ve escaped to a hotel this time. 😅 Well deserved, I think. 😁 Up until now we’ve relied on marinas having guest facilities, but not all of them have… Continue reading Day 15: Weather-bound, once again
Day 14: We’ve passed the Arctic Circle
We’re back “on the road”. We have a small window with good weather so we’re counting on a monster stretch that will take us all the way to Bodø today. If we’re gonna get stuck somewhere again, it’s better that we’re there. We’ve passed Sandnessjøen and the Arctic Circle! The weather is lovely with barely… Continue reading Day 14: We’ve passed the Arctic Circle
Day 13: Stuck in Brønnøysund
Day 12 went by with no rain, but too much wind and today it’s still too windy to continue and the rain is pouring down. So today we’re be stuck in the boat mostly, as there’s no temptation to go outside without umbrella or rain jackets. 😅
Day 11: Heading towards Brønnøysund
40 minutes til we reach Brønnøysund! Day 10 was spent ashore and today has been a bit rough because of yesterday’s weather. Most of the day was spent clinging on with a lot of heavy rain. Upside is we’ve gotten a lot of pretty rainbows 😁 (none of which were easy to get on camera).… Continue reading Day 11: Heading towards Brønnøysund
